The paintings at Twyfelfontein are not as numerous as those to be found at the Brandberg or the Erongo and they are painted on sandstone instead of granite. At the Twyfelfontein site it can be seen that the rock engravings were mainly reserved for the animals that were deemed to have mystical powers. Whereas the paintings appear to be more of a recreational depiction of the daily lifestyle of the ancient Bushmen that lived at the Twyfelfontein. Scenes of the game animals that shared 'their' valley and scenes of the group's activities.

The above right painting has caused an amount of speculations as to the meaning. The people sitting cross-legged were originally named the 'two tailors', but more recent opinions consider that the seated beings were swaying from side to side possibly in rhythm to some chant or music.

The site is operated under the supervision of the National Heritage Council of Namibia and trained local guides will take you around the site also showing you the points of interest
