Namibia towns and travel bases
Namibia's towns organise the practical geography of a road trip. Some are destinations in their own right; others are valuable places to refuel, resupply, slow down and understand the surrounding region.
Central and capital
Windhoek is the main arrival and service centre. Smaller central towns connect the plateau with the coast, the Namib and northern routes.
Coastal bases
Swakopmund and Walvis Bay support different coastal experiences, while Lüderitz anchors the far south-west.
Northern gateways
Outjo, Otjiwarongo, Tsumeb, Grootfontein and Khorixas are useful anchors for wildlife, Waterberg and Damaraland routes.
Southern route towns
Keetmanshoop, Mariental and Aus help break long southern drives and connect the canyon, coast and central Namib.
