Getting to Namibia
Most international journeys begin with an air or overland gateway and continue by road. Treat the arrival day as part of the itinerary: allow time for formalities, vehicle collection, supplies and rest before a long transfer.
Confirm entry before departure
Requirements depend on nationality, travel purpose and intended stay. Use Namibia's immigration authority rather than an undated travel list, and check document validity and any transit requirements with the transport provider.
Arriving by air
Windhoek is the main starting point for many itineraries, while regional airports may suit particular routes. Verify the operating airport, transfer arrangements, luggage limits and vehicle-collection location directly with the carrier and provider.
Avoid scheduling a demanding remote drive immediately after a long international journey.
Crossing by road
Overland travellers should verify the intended border post, current opening arrangements, vehicle documents, insurance and cross-border permissions before departure. Historical border tables are not a safe operational source.
Prepare the first twenty-four hours
Keep accommodation and transfer details offline, confirm the first fuel and supply stops, and give vehicle collection enough time for inspection and questions. A calm first day is valuable risk management.
