Namibia's Atlantic coast
Namibia's coast is a meeting of systems: cold ocean, fog, dune fields, productive wetlands and long desert roads. Swakopmund and Walvis Bay make practical bases; farther north the landscape becomes more remote and access-sensitive.
Two complementary bases
Swakopmund is known for historic streets, visitor services and activities. Walvis Bay centres on its harbour, lagoon and access to coastal and dune environments.
North along the ocean
Cape Cross and the Skeleton Coast introduce wildlife, maritime history and increasing remoteness. Do not treat old access notes as current permits or permission.
Plan for coastal conditions
Fog, wind and cold water can surprise visitors expecting only desert heat. Marine, dune and protected-area activities should be booked with responsible operators and checked against current rules.

Can I drive anywhere on coastal dunes?
